Cretan Dakos took the top spot in the list of the 100 best salads in the world with a score of 4.6 out of 5 published last week by Taste Atlas.
Of course, this top of the list could not have been without the Greek salad (Horiatiki salata), which came in third place behind the Tunisian Mechouia salad.
The top five are closed by the Chinese Pai Huang Gua and the cool Ovcharska from Bulgaria.
Of course, there are other Greek salads on the list. In 13th place, we find our favourite Horta (boiled greens and weeds), while Patatosalata (Greek potato salad) is in 37th place, Pantzarosalata (beetroot salad) is in 43rd place, Tonosalata (tuna salad) is in 49th place, Askordoulakous (bulbs) is in 64th place, and Lahanosalata (cabbage salad) is in 94th place.
Cretan Dakos
Taste Atlas wrote about Cretan Dakos: Dakos or ntakos is a traditional Cretan dish consisting of a dry barley rusk called paximadi that is topped with crumbled myzithra cheese, chopped ripe tomatoes, whole olives, capers, fresh oregano, and a few generous splashes of high-quality olive oil. Traditionally, myzithra cheese is used rather than feta cheese, usually reserved for tourist restaurants. The rusk is often gently rubbed with a small piece of garlic and sprinkled lightly with sea salt. The dish is usually served as a snack or light dinner.
